This Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Martin Luther King Community Coalition in Cooperation with the Pasadena Unified School District and Dr. Merian Stewart, principal of Washington Middle School proudly sponsors the Martin Luther King Day of Service: A Day On, Not Off.
On the Saturday before the national holiday celebrating Dr. King’s birthday, MLK Community Coalition members coordinate local volunteers to partner with the Pasadena Unified School District to sponsor a beautification project at designated campuses. It is a wonderful event that brings out students and their families and community members, and creates long-lasting bonds.
This year, the event will take place at Washington STEAM Middle School located at 1505 North Marengo Avenue, Pasadena, California 91103. Afterwards, there will be lunch provided and student entertainment.
Keynote speakers are Gerald K. Freeney, Tournament of Roses Secretary and 2019 Tournament of Roses President (who will be the first African-American president); Terrence James Roberts, one of the Little Rock Nine (first black students to integrate Central High School in 1957); and Dr. Jack Scott, Chancellor Emeritus, California Community Colleges.
Students who wish to earn community service credit, bring verification form to the sign in table.
